The follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) ensures that the oocytes develop in the ovaries and ovulation can occur in the middle of the cycle.

The FSH value fluctuates greatly in the course of the cycle. FSH above the normal range can indicate a malfunction in the reproductive organs. High FSH concentrations can also occur during the cycle and are therefore normal. However, they can also be an indication of a hormone deficiency in the ovaries, which is attempted to be compensated for by an increased release of FSH.

An FSH value below the normal range can lead to cycle disturbances and the absence of ovulation.
